Senior Year!

Senior year. Hard to believe. I'm going to have to start focusing on what I'm going to do after I graduate in May, whether it's grad school or jumping right into the industry (biomedical/mechanical engineering).

Yesterday I went to a resume workshop hosted by VCS, Viterbi Career Services. The workshop focused on the content of technical resumes, so it was really catered toward what we as engineers need to put on there. Going in, I thought my resume was pretty good, but I learned some interesting formatting tips when I was there...how to make your resume appear longer, how to squeeze everything onto one page, which sections can be optional, which sections to highlight. I'll need to set aside some time next week to take a look at my resume and put the VCS suggestions to good use. The Viterbi Career Conference is coming up, and so is the Career Fair. Especially since it's my senior year, I need to be extra- on top of things so that I don't miss any awesome opportunities in the wake of graduating eight months from now.

Busy Weekend

Check out my friend's thesis! He's in grad school for USC film. Here's the trailer for what my friend (the director!) has been working on:

Looks awesome, right? Any Twilight fans out there who recognize Justin Chon? Anyone who's seen the viral myspace movie with David Lehre? They're the leads!

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know I've been pretty AWOL, basically since January, but I've been pretty busy. Picture this:

Friday: class at 9. Work at 10. Meeting at 11. Back to work at 12:30. Meeting at 4pm. Back to apartment at 5pm. Leave at 7pm to go to KoreaTown with friends for dinner. Back to apartment at 1:30, in bed at 2:30.

Saturday: at Block Party event at 8am to set up. Stay for cleanup until 4:30. Arrive at apartment at 4:45. Fall asleep at 5:30 (pm!)

Sunday: at Clash of the Trojans (with Troy Camp) at 8am to set up. Stay for cleanup until 1:30. Arrive at Trojan Wars for URSC and Building Government at 1:45. Meeting at 4. Meeting at 6. Meeting at 7. Meeting at 8. Writing this blog at 11ish.

Normally, my weekends are a lot more relaxing than this...oh well, I think my 14 hours of sleep from Saturday to Sunday was a good recharge! I've noticed that my time management is significantly better though, when I'm more busy. I'm a lot more focused when I have a lot on my plate, because I know I don't have as much time to sit around on YouTube all day.

Cake Wrecks

I came across a really sweet (pardon the pun) blog a while back, and thought I'd share it with you all. Basically, they showcase a bunch of really sorry-looking cakes (and cupcakes). Some of them are so pathetic it's funny, while others are so poorly done that I start wondering about people. The Super Bowl cakes..."Go Cardenals!" Really?? Oh my gosh.

Other featured cakes are truly masterpieces though, and I'd feel guilty eating them...

Should have bought a lottery ticket

So last Thursday, my friend took me down to Torrance to a cell phone repair center. My phone had been broken for a while, so it was definitely time to take it in.

We finally got to the place literally 5 minutes before closing (we took the wrong exit at least four times along the way). When I got there, I had to put my name and cell phone number on the sign-in sheet. But then, I noticed the previous person on the sign-in sheet...area code 503--"Hey, that's Portland!" I thought. Where they were from? Vancouver, WA. Wait a second--that's where I'm from! Turns out that they were sitting in the waiting area. We chatted a little bit about Washington, and I found out that they were from the east side of Vancouver (I'm in the more northwest part). They asked what I was doing all the way down in LA, and I told them that I'm studying engineering here at USC.

Anyway, their phone problems were resolved before mine, but before the couple left, the man said, "Hey, I should go buy a lottery ticket!" No kidding--what are the odds of seeing someone from your out-of-state hometown in Torrance, CA at 9pm on a Thursday night? Crazy.

YouTube

As long as we're talking about funny videos...

Last year in my folklore class (a GE), we talked a lot about YouTube and originality, especially since YouTube has so many people who use their talents to parody or put their own spin on more popular videos.

Heard of the song Paper Planes?

Yeah, I don't really like it, mostly because it's been stuck in my head for the past two days. I recently found a version that I really like:

This guy makes some pretty awesome videos. I'm a big fan of YouTube, and I'll try to post some of my good finds in the future. I forgot when I first created my account (sometime within the last two years), but in that time, I have watched 6,239 videos. And that's only when I'm logged in. Now, if we assume that videos are about 3 minutes long, then I've watched 18,717 minutes of YouTube (again, not including the videos I watch when I'm not logged in, or when a friend is showing me a video on his/her computer). So basically, I've been watching videos while logged into my channel for 311.95 hours, a.k.a. 12.9979 days. For sure, there are people out there who have seen more. I love love love watching YouTube videos--let me know if you have any good suggestions for channels or videos!
