I Got a Job...in Asia!

I am so stoked....I can't even handle it. I found out today that I was accepted for this internship program I had applied to. I mentioned it awhile ago, it's called Global Fellows. It was pretty competitive so I wasn't really sure I'd get it, but now that I have I am so excited! I get to live and work in one of 5 east Asian cities for 8 weeks this summer. And I get paid. And what an adventure! So much better than busing tables at the local seafood restaurant. I don't find out what city I'll be in for a few weeks. The options are Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tapei or Tokyo. I'm thinking Beijing, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I don't know what kind of work I'll be doing yet, but I'll be down for anything. I kind of just want to see what a working engineer does everyday, I seriously have no idea. Ok I have to go. I have a midterm on Friday and haven't started studying. I'm so amped I can't even be stressed right now...

Shifting Gears

A few days ago, in the middle of the chaos that is the last stretch of the semester...my friend took me out to teach me to drive a stick shift. I didn't really have a lot of time to be messing around with something like that, but she's been promising for like a year and she's studying abroad next semester. So it was kind of now or never. Anyways, it was super fun. Who knew driving in circles around the Coliseum parking lot could be so entertaining? I feel pretty bad for her car, it kind of took a beating, but actually I wasn't horrible. It's way harder than it looks. Apparently, I am not as coordinated as I thought. Thank God it wasn't my dad trying to teach me, he would've had a fit. I definitely made some progress, and now I'm just waiting to get to do it again. I miss driving (I don't have a car here). And I think driving a manual is a skill everyone should have. I don't know why exactly, it's not like automatic cars are in short supply, but anyways, I just want to try again. On the roads! Well actually, that sounds pretty terrifying. LA drivers are not the friendliest people. But still, I way rather be out stalling on Figueroa than in here writing my lab report. Happy Thanksgiving!
